Grants to Rural Providers
Research Program
State Programs

These grants are aimed at expanding access to, coordinating, restraining cost of, and improving the quality of essential health care in rural areas. For information on what areas are eligible for Rural Health Grants see Geographic Eligibility for Rural Health Grant Programs.

• Rural Health Outreach Grant Program - The emphasis of this grant program is on service delivery through creative strategies requiring the grantee to form a network with at least two additional partners.
• Network Development Grant Program - These grants are designed to further ongoing collaborative relationships among health care organizations by funding rural health networks that focus on integrating clinical, information, administrative, and financial systems across members.
• Network Development Planning Grant Program - The grant program provides one-year of funding to rural communities needing assistance in the development of an integrated healthcare network. The planning grants are to be used to develop a formal network with the purpose of improving the coordination of health services in rural communities and strengthening the rural health care system as a whole.
• Delta States Initiative - The Delta States Initiative is comprised of two programs within the Office of Rural Health Policy. They are the Delta States Rural Development Network Grant Program and the Delta Rural Hospital Improvement (RHPI) Project. This purpose is to help improve the health of people who live in the Mississippi Delta region.

• Rural Access to Emergency Devices (RAED) Grant Program - The Rural Access to Emergency Devices (RAED) Grant Program provides funding to rural communities to purchase automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and provide training in their use and maintenance.

• Public Access to Defibrillation (PADDP) Demonstration Projects
• Small Rural Hospital Improvement Grant Program

• Frontier Extended Stay Clinic (FESC) Cooperative Agreement Program

• Small Health Care Provider Quality Improvement (SHCPQI) Grant Program - The Small Health Care Provider Quality Improvement (SHCPQI) Grant Program will assist rural providers with the implementation of quality improvement strategies, while improving patient care and chronic disease outcomes.
• The Black Lung Clinics Program - The Black Lung Clinics Program supports clinics to evaluate and treat coal miners with respiratory impairments.
• The Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program - The Radiation Exposure Screening and Education Program (RESEP) aids the thousands of individuals adversely affected by the mining, transport and processing of uranium and the testing of nuclear weapons for the Nation's weapons arsenal.

State Programs

The Federal Office of Rural Health Policy (ORHP) promotes State and local empowerment to meet rural health needs in several ways: by supporting State Offices of Rural Health, by encouraging the formation of State Rural Health Associations, and by working with a variety of State agencies to improve rural health.

• The FLEX CAH HIT Network grant is to provide funds to support the development of a Flex CAH-HIT Network pilot programs in States receiving the grant.
  

• The State Offices of Rural Health Grant Program, which began in 1991, resulted in the creation or expansion of 50 State offices and a national organization of State offices (NOSORH).
• The Rural Hospital Flexibility Grant Program (RHF), is an outgrowth of the Montana Medical Assistance Facility (MAF) Demonstration and the Essential Access Community Hospital/Rural Primary Care Hospital (EACH/RPCH) programs.
