Selection Considerations

Basic criteria for selection:

  1. Geographical location, counties listed by the Delta Regional Authority, and
  2. 50 or fewer staffed beds.

In addition, the following is a list of considerations for selecting hospitals to participate in targeted or comprehensive consultations.

  1. Presentation of a completed application.
  2. Support from the board to submit the application.
  3. Demonstration of a need for technical assistance in the application and through the follow-up interview(s).
  4. Demonstration of willingness to participate in the performance improvement process; examine current hospital performance and to consider strategies for improvement; engage fully in change processes; and to share data and information with consultants.
  5. Recommendation from the state hospital association and/or the state office of rural health that the hospital is a good candidate and would benefit from this service.
  6. Determination that there are no pending or anticipated issues that would hinder the consultation process.
  7. Determination that there is a good fit between the consulting organization and the applicant hospital; that the timing is right; and there is a good fit between hospital needs and available consulting services.
  8. Equity among the eight states so that each state receives project services.
